Luxury Cars in India – A Market on the Rise

The Indian car industry is considered one of the youngest industry as far as luxury cars are concerned. This is mainly due to the fact that it is only recently that the Indian consumers have started buying these vehicles on a large-scale. Even today, major car buyers in the country are on the lookout for budget or premium cars.

However, that does not mean that there is a dearth of luxury cars in India. To the contrary, there are close to 75 models of luxury cars that are available in the Indian market for buyers who would like to splurge on their cars, which come both in diesel and petrol variants. In fact, a majority of luxury cars come powered by a diesel engine – around 39 of them in total. The starting price of these cars is around INR 3050000/- (~$219,420). Among the most popular luxury cars in India are the Audi A4, Jaguar XJ, BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XF and Audi A6.

The most popular luxury car brands in India are Audi, Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Of these, the BMW cars top the chart as far as the most popular luxury cars are concerned. The cheapest BMW car (BMW 3Series 320d) comes at a price of INR 3345000/- and the most expensive car (BMW 7Series 760Li) from their stable comes at a price tag of INR 18690000/- (~$314,249).

When it comes to Audi 4 series, the cheapest of the lot, Audi A4 1.8 TFSI, comes at a price of INR 2986000/- and the expensive of the lot, Audi A4 3.0 TDI Quattro Technology, comes at INR 5622000/-. For the Mercedes-Benz brand, the Mercedes-Benz C Class C 220 CDI Sport Edition, priced at INR 3034900/- is the cheapest. The Mercedes-Benz C Class C 63 AMG, priced at INR 177606005/- is the most expensive Benz car to hit the Indian roads at present.

Volvo cars are comparatively cheaper as their prices are in the range of 30 to 35 lakh rupees. However, cars like Jaguar, Maserati, Porsche, BMW (X series), Rolls Royce Aston Martin and Bentley comes for a price tag of more than one crore. In fact, brands like Rolls Royce Aston Martin and Bentley can be referred to as super luxury brands as their cars carry a price tag or more than four crore rupees.

Luxury cars in India come in various trims, including automatic versions as well. Although these cars are not as fuel-efficient as budget cars, the fact that they offer extreme comfort and utmost luxury make them highly popular among the buyers.
